Where’s Your Ancestral Village?
February 12, 2008 by Steve
At past UPGS conferences, attendees have been asked to identify the locations of their ancestral villages on a map. To start off the process this year, attendees are invited to have the locations of their ancestral villages entered on the map, below. To have your ancestral villages marked on the map, please post a comment to this article, and we’ll add the locations of your villages. Please be as specific as possible about the locations so we can mark the correct place (supplying both the name of the village and the name of the parish is usually sufficient to pinpoint the location).
Ancestral Villages of UPGS 2008 Attendees
Click on the link for an interactive map that you can resize and move.
UPDATE: This map was updated on 23 March 2008. Not all villages submitted are marked on this map. In some cases, the villages could not be located or, if the village name was a common one, the location of the correct village could not be determined. Errors and omissions can be corrected at UPGS 2008.

Hi Ceil, et. al.,
Ok my ancestors came from:
[All are in the Russian-Partition, old woj. Kielce]
1. Zabiec - last village grandfather (gf) lived in before emigrating to US
2. Pacanow (par. probably Sw. Marcin) - village gf born, last village my grandmother (gm) lived in before emigrating to US.
3. Biechow - village gm born in. MANY ELIASZ back to 1690’s born here.
All of these are confirmed. They are all North-East of Krakow following Vistula river. These are villages just north of Vistula river in old woj./gubernya of Kielce.
Pacanow & Biechow are parishes and the LDS have microfilm. Zabiec I am not certain which parish they belonged to back then and they are not a parish and have no microfilm (unless they are part of Pacanow of Zborowek parishes).
I am still examining Zborowek, and some surrounding villages for my LESZCZYNSKI line. Especially since my grandmother was born in Biechow (although no LESZCZYNSKI data in Biechow or Pacanowmicrofilm).
Again every village mentioned was in old woj of Kielce just north of Vistula river.
Toszek, Koszecin, Wisnicze, Nogowczyce, Pluznica, Swibie, Gajowice,
Jemielnica, Kotulin
Graczyk name is from Jaroszewo, Znin, Bydgoszcz, Poznania later my line moved to Szelejewo,Gasawa,Bydgoszcz,Poznania then back to Jaroszewo and just before coming to the USA they were in Januskowo,Znin,Bydgoszcz
My Nowak side came from Marcinkowo Gorne, and Marcinkowo Dolne, Gasawa, Bydgoszcz
Kilinski side from Sarbinowo,Znin,Bydgoszcz
Swendra ?
Piotrowiak ?
Most of the information that I have so far is from my father’s side. I don’t know any of the parishs, just the villages and they are all in the Starogard, Gdanski region. The villages are Piesienica, Kokoszkowy, Wilczeblota, Krag, Skeklin, Biatowo, Lubichowo, and Czarnylas. All of the events that I have information on, occured between 1821 and 1866.
My Paternal side is from the Villages of Czerwinskie, Baranowo and Parciaki in the Parish of Baranowo in the present day Mazowieckie Province some 100 miles north of Warsaw. These villages are northwest of Ostroleka. My maternal grandfather was from the Village of Jasionka, Parish of Jasionka, south of Krosno and some 16 miles north of the present Czech border in the Podkarpackie Province and my maternal grandmother’s family from the Villages of Nieciecza and Konary (both very close to Tarnow) in the Malopolska province. Presently Nieciecza has its own parish, which was started in 1980, previously it was a part of the Parish of Otfinow. It lies within the County of Dabrowa Tarnowska. Konary was historically a part of the Parish of Zabno, also very close to Tarnow (County of Dabrowa Tarnowska).
I have traced each side of the family to at least 1700 and am willing to help anyone whose ancestors come from any of these ancestral areas.

I wish I could attend the conference, but unfortunately it was scheduled during Passover. Even though I’m not Jewish (my wife is), I would have hoped that the Polish genealogy would have been sensitive to the Polish Jewish community that is also searching for information about our ancestors.
For what it’s worth, I’ll be there in spirit. If you wish to add my ancestral villages — it would be Buczkowice and Lodygowice (south of Bielsko-Biala) in SW Poland.
Hi Alan,
You make a good point. We will keep that in mind when we schedule the 2010 UPGS Seminar.

My actual “ancestral” villages are these 4 (my direct ancestors have lived in these places as far back as I have traced, that is, late 1700s): Łęki Górne, same parish; Jadamwola, parish Czarny Potok; Roztoka, parish Łukowica; and Młynczyska, parishes Łukowica or Czarny Potok, apparently depending upon which side of the mountain you lived on.
I am also researching extended families in many different places. Will there also be some kind of a list of names/places available or distributed in addition to the map?
Thanks.
Hi Mary Ann,
There will be several pages in the syllabus with attendee names, email and surnames / villages . The registration form gives permission to print the data for other attendees.
I will send out another email requesting additional data.
See you in Salt Lake.
