At past UPGS conferences, attendees have been asked to identify the locations of their ancestral villages on a map. To start off the process this year, attendees are invited to have the locations of their ancestral villages entered on the map, below. To have your ancestral villages marked on the map, please post a comment to this article, and we’ll add the locations of your villages. Please be as specific as possible about the locations so we can mark the correct place (supplying both the name of the village and the name of the parish is usually sufficient to pinpoint the location).
Ancestral Villages of UPGS 2008 Attendees
Click on the link for an interactive map that you can resize and move.
UPDATE: This map was updated on 23 March 2008. Not all villages submitted are marked on this map. In some cases, the villages could not be located or, if the village name was a common one, the location of the correct village could not be determined. Errors and omissions can be corrected at UPGS 2008.
Hi Ceil, et. al.,
Ok my ancestors came from:
[All are in the Russian-Partition, old woj. Kielce]
1. Zabiec – last village grandfather (gf) lived in before emigrating to US
2. Pacanow (par. probably Sw. Marcin) – village gf born, last village my grandmother (gm) lived in before emigrating to US.
3. Biechow – village gm born in. MANY ELIASZ back to 1690’s born here.
All of these are confirmed. They are all North-East of Krakow following Vistula river. These are villages just north of Vistula river in old woj./gubernya of Kielce.
Pacanow & Biechow are parishes and the LDS have microfilm. Zabiec I am not certain which parish they belonged to back then and they are not a parish and have no microfilm (unless they are part of Pacanow of Zborowek parishes).
I am still examining Zborowek, and some surrounding villages for my LESZCZYNSKI line. Especially since my grandmother was born in Biechow (although no LESZCZYNSKI data in Biechow or Pacanowmicrofilm).
Again every village mentioned was in old woj of Kielce just north of Vistula river.

Hi
We are looking for the location of where our Nowak ancestors came from in Poland (near Krakow). We found a Latter Day Saints baptismal record which has us looking in the Jemielnica and Kielcza, Poland areas, however we are unable to fine a catholic church record for our Family. Do you have any suggestions for us.

Three lines all came from neighboring villages, all in the parish of Dobrzechow (on the road from Jaslo to Strzyzow in the Wislok Valley). The villages are:
Kozuchow (west of Dobrzechow but before Kalembina)
Rozanka ( north of Dobrzechow)
Wysoka Strzyzowka (south and slightly east of Dobrzechow)
A prior generation came from Markuszowa, in the same parish, just south of the river.
Most of the information that I have so far is from my father’s side. I don’t know any of the parishs, just the villages and they are all in the Starogard, Gdanski region. The villages are Piesienica, Kokoszkowy, Wilczeblota, Krag, Skeklin, Biatowo, Lubichowo, and Czarnylas. All of the events that I have information on, occured between 1821 and 1866.
My Paternal side is from the Villages of Czerwinskie, Baranowo and Parciaki in the Parish of Baranowo in the present day Mazowieckie Province some 100 miles north of Warsaw. These villages are northwest of Ostroleka. My maternal grandfather was from the Village of Jasionka, Parish of Jasionka, south of Krosno and some 16 miles north of the present Czech border in the Podkarpackie Province and my maternal grandmother’s family from the Villages of Nieciecza and Konary (both very close to Tarnow) in the Malopolska province. Presently Nieciecza has its own parish, which was started in 1980, previously it was a part of the Parish of Otfinow. It lies within the County of Dabrowa Tarnowska. Konary was historically a part of the Parish of Zabno, also very close to Tarnow (County of Dabrowa Tarnowska).
I have traced each side of the family to at least 1700 and am willing to help anyone whose ancestors come from any of these ancestral areas.
Jim Tye
Jim,
I am just starting to research my ancestry with my father who came from Baranowo. On his U.S. Declaration of Intention his name is listed as Stanley Grat born May 8, 1896. It indicates he arrived in U.S. from Bremen, Germany under the name of Stanislaw Grath on Nov. 5, 1913 on the vessel SS Main.
This document was mailed to him in 1946 from Piotr Grad in Baranowo. I am unable to find any “Grat” in Baranowo but plenty of Grad. Also, a piotr Grat made a few visits to the U.S. in the early 1900’s visiting a “Gratt” im Baltimore, MD.
Could you offer any guidancefor me ?
Thank You
was wondering if you have the church records for nieciecza pre 1871. Looking for the last name of Gluza, Prazuch, and sroka
Jim Tye:
I hope this is your current email.
My mother’s ancestors are from Nowa Wies, the parish just south of Baranowo. I am working on another family, helping someone from Baranowo.
I have a couple questions for you.
Please respond “OK” if you have time for a few short questions.

My maternal grandmother, surname Jarek, was from Kwiatonowice, and arrived in the United States in 1901
My maternal grandfather, surname Prusak, was from Przeciszow, and arrived in the United States in 1903.
My paternal grandfather, surname Stupinski, and grandmother, surname Wandzilak, were both came to the United States from Wysowa. He arrived in 1882, and she arrived ca. 1893.
Mike,
I might have some information about Wysowa and family Stupinski – please contact me at patrosza@hotmail.com
hi Mike.
I saw ur post about the genealogy of ur family. My surname is Jarek, like ur grandmothers, and my paternal grandfather Jarek (born ca. 1900) was from Olpiny, which is about 1o km from Kwiatonowice, where ur grandmother is from.
The surname Jarek is very popular in this area (but strangely only in this area of Poland)
I was wondering, if u have any idea where all the ”Jareks” came from? or anything else about this name?
all the best
Anasza
Hi Anasza,
My grandfather, Jan Jarek, immigrated from Olpiny in 1902. He had two brothers, Ignatz and Stanislaw, who also came over to the Chicago area. . Stanislaw later returned to Poland to raise a family. They were all sons of Michael Jarek and Bernice Wojcik.
I had posted earlier that my grandmother was from Grutta… well I just found out she isn’t from there at all. She is from a place called Boguszy which is now a place called ELK, Poland not far from Grajewo. I’m learning so much Polish history… I found a woman on Facebook from Elk and she is going to help me by having her family check the graveyards.
Are you related to stuppins family from yonkers ny my family came from wysowa in1890
I wish I could attend the conference, but unfortunately it was scheduled during Passover. Even though I’m not Jewish (my wife is), I would have hoped that the Polish genealogy would have been sensitive to the Polish Jewish community that is also searching for information about our ancestors.
For what it’s worth, I’ll be there in spirit. If you wish to add my ancestral villages — it would be Buczkowice and Lodygowice (south of Bielsko-Biala) in SW Poland.
Hi Alan,
You make a good point. We will keep that in mind when we schedule the 2010 UPGS Seminar.

My actual “ancestral” villages are these 4 (my direct ancestors have lived in these places as far back as I have traced, that is, late 1700s): Łęki Górne, same parish; Jadamwola, parish Czarny Potok; Roztoka, parish Łukowica; and Młynczyska, parishes Łukowica or Czarny Potok, apparently depending upon which side of the mountain you lived on.
I am also researching extended families in many different places. Will there also be some kind of a list of names/places available or distributed in addition to the map?
Thanks.
Hi Mary Ann,
There will be several pages in the syllabus with attendee names, email and surnames / villages . The registration form gives permission to print the data for other attendees.
I will send out another email requesting additional data.
See you in Salt Lake.

Hi Izabella,
I just found your message on the 2008 UPGS conference site. I did a genealogy trip to Poland in May 2009 and stayed in Lezajsk a few days. My gm was from Jelna, a few miles north of Lezajsk and my gf was from Debno. His last name was Banas. We went through the cemetery in back of the RC church in Debno looking for family tombstones but found none. Our tour guide read Ukrainian Cyrillic and helped us in the search. As you probobly know, Debno was 90% Ukrainaian at one time and they were of the Greek Catholic faith. In Jelna I found people who are probably distant cousins. I would love to hear from you again.
I was just playing on the computer and looked at the site again.

I was looking for info about the 2010 UPGS convention. It was a surprise to see that it was not at the usual hotel across from the LDS library. So I went to your site to see if I could find out more. Unfortunately, no more info is available. (I attended the 2008 UPGS convention.) So–when I saw this map project, I thought I’d add my own villages, even though no one may look at this project again. Brodnica City, in the county of Brodnica. Jajkowo, a small village (but it has a brewery & a train station) north of the city of Brodnica.
I am researching my Ancestry roots for the Korenkiewicz family. They have been known to have emmigrated from Podlaskie, Voivodship, Augustow Gima and from the viallages of Serski Las and/or Sztabin.
I also have found our name on the list of missing 600 people from the Augustow Roundup of July 1945. I would like to know if we are related. It would seem that with the exact spelling of our last name the same that chances are that we are related.
I would apreciate any information that I could receive
Thanx
Many years have passed and you probably won’t read this anymore…Is your ancestor name Ignacy Koronkiewicz from Serski Las and his son this Zygmunt Korenkiewicz?
